Frequently asked questions

Is it really free?

Yes. Make and download as many CVs as you like, with no hidden costs. If it helped you, you can buy us a coffee, but you don’t have to.

Where does my data go?

It stays in your browser, on this device. We can’t see it and we don’t keep it. If you switch computers, open “My CVs”, save the backup file and open it on the other computer: all your CVs come with you.

Can I import the CV I already have?

Yes, from Word (.docx) or from a PDF with selectable text, including your LinkedIn profile PDF. After the import we point out the fields to double-check. Scanned PDFs, which are pictures of pages, can’t be read.

Does the PDF work with applicant tracking systems?

Yes: the text stays text, it doesn’t become an image. The Essential template, in a single column, is the one automated screening systems read best.

How do I get the PDF?

Press “Download PDF” and, in the print window, choose “Save as PDF” as the destination. Leave the margins on “Default”.

Can I edit my CV after downloading it?

Yes. Download the Word file and edit it like any document, or open CV Espresso again in the same browser: your last CV is right where you left it.

Does it work on my phone?

Yes, though a computer is more comfortable for writing a full CV. On a phone you switch between the form and the preview with the buttons at the bottom.

Can I use ChatGPT or another AI?

Yes: ask the AI to write or improve the text, then paste it in the “Import” tab and we lay it out for you. You’ll find a ready-made prompt to copy there too. Always double-check what the AI writes, and remember that whatever you paste into a chat goes to that service, not to CV Espresso.

What is the GDPR line at the bottom of the CV?

Many Italian recruiters ask for a consent line about personal data. If you don’t need it, turn it off in the “Design” tab.

Is there a European-format CV?

Yes: in the “Design” tab choose the “European” template. It has labels on the left like the classic European CV (Dates, Occupation, Main activities…), which some employers and public competitions still ask for.

Can I write a cover letter too?

Yes: in the “Letter” tab you write it with the same design as your CV and download it as PDF or Word. There’s also a ready-made prompt to have an AI write it from your CV and the job advert.

Can I add projects, volunteering or a driving licence?

Yes: in “Fill in”, open “More sections” and add as many as you like, each with its own title. Write one item per line.

Can I tailor my CV to a job advert?

Yes: in «Fill in» press «Tailor to a job advert», paste the advert and copy the prompt into your AI. Paste its answer back: CV Espresso creates a copy of your CV for that advert, with your contact details and photo, and the original CV stays as it is. In that copy, the cover letter prompt already includes the advert too.

If an import went wrong, please don’t attach your CV: tell us the file format and which program created it. CVs contain personal data and we’d rather not receive them.
