Terms of use

Last updated: 13 October 2026

CV Espresso is a free tool for writing, laying out and downloading your CV and cover letter. It is run by Filippo Tommasi di Vignano. By using the site you accept these terms: there aren’t many, and they’re written in plain language.

The service

The site is free to use and needs no sign-up. Your CV is filled in and laid out in your browser and downloaded as a PDF or Word file. We may improve, change or suspend the service, in whole or in part, when needed; we are committed to keeping the features that are free today free.

Your CV is yours

What you write, and the files you download, are yours: you can use, edit and send them to anyone, with no limits and no need to mention CV Espresso. You are responsible for what they contain: that it is true and that you have the right to use it, the photo for example. Don’t add other people’s details without their permission.

Where it is saved

Your CV is saved only in the browser you are using, on this device: we can’t see it and we don’t keep it (the Privacy & cookies page explains how). If you clear your browser data, use private browsing or switch devices, your CV is gone: to keep it, download the Word file or save the backup from “My CVs”.

Imports and automatic checks

When you import a CV from Word, PDF or text, the fields are filled in automatically and something may end up in the wrong place: always check before downloading. The same goes for the check-up tips and the page estimate: they help, they don’t guarantee.

AI services

CV Espresso does not include an artificial intelligence: it gives you texts (prompts) to copy into a service of your choice, such as ChatGPT, Claude or Gemini. Whatever you paste into those services goes to them, under their own terms and privacy notice. AI answers can contain mistakes or made-up details: always read them through, and never claim experience or skills you don’t have.

The site and its content

The CV Espresso name and logo, the design, the site’s code and the text of the guides remain ours: you can read them and share their link, but not copy or republish them as your own. You are free to use the templates for your own CVs.

Fair use

Don’t use the site to send automated requests in bulk, to try to break its security or to upload harmful files. To protect the service we limit the number of requests.

Donations

The “Buy us an espresso” button leads to an external page for a free, optional donation: it doesn’t entitle you to extra services and follows the terms of the platform that handles it.

No warranty

We do our best to make the site work well, but we offer it as it is: we can’t guarantee that it will always be available and error-free, that every applicant tracking system will accept the file, or that your CV will get you an interview. To the extent permitted by law, we are not liable for damage arising from the use of the site. The rights the law gives you that cannot be excluded remain unaffected.

Governing law

These terms are governed by Italian law. If you are a consumer, you keep the rights granted to you by the law of the country where you live.

Changes and contact

If these terms change, we will update this page and the date at the top. For any question, write to us from the Contact & support page.
